Baltic Birch Plywood: Why We Use It
We use BB/BB Baltic Birch plywood for our furniture because of its durability, strength, and smooth finish. Unlike standard plywood found in big-box stores, Baltic Birch is constructed with more layers of high-quality veneer, fewer internal voids, and a thicker face veneer, making it significantly stronger and longer-lasting.
What Makes Baltic Birch Superior?
✔ More Layers – Baltic Birch is made with all-birch, uniform plies, typically 11 to 13 layers for ¾” thickness, compared to fewer, mixed-wood layers in standard plywood.
✔ Minimal Voids – Fewer gaps or air pockets inside the layers, resulting in better structural integrity and stronger screw-holding power.
✔ Thicker Face Veneer – The outer veneer is much thicker and more durable, unlike big-box store plywood, which often has a thin surface that chips or sands through easily.
✔ Consistent Quality – Big-box store plywood often contains softwood filler layers, warping issues, and inconsistent core materials, whereas Baltic Birch is made entirely from high-quality birch plies for maximum strength and longevity.
This is the gold standard for plywood used in high-end furniture, cabinetry, and woodworking, ensuring that our products are not only beautiful but built to last.
Natural Imperfections & Football Patches
Baltic Birch plywood sometimes contains small cosmetic patches, often called "football patches," which are natural to the material. These patches are part of the plywood manufacturing process and do not affect the strength or durability of the wood.

Additionally, some minor surface repairs may be present. These are done during plywood production and are sealed under the UV topcoat, making them smooth to the touch and unnoticeable in daily use.
Pre-Assembly for Quality Control
Each bookshelf is fully assembled in our workshop before shipping to ensure all parts fit perfectly and meet our quality standards. If you notice slight assembly marks, rest assured that this is part of our meticulous quality control process and does not mean the product has been previously used.
Our Commitment to Quality
While natural variations exist in all wood products, we take every step to ensure the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. Our goal is to deliver beautiful, durable furniture that supports your child’s independence and growth.
